Need help to figure out a solution?
You’ve tried to fix things on your own, but so far, nothing has worked to make changes “stick.”
You don’t know what else to do, but think, “Can therapy really help me?”
“Maybe this isn’t as big of a deal as it feels to me?”
“What if she just thinks I am crazy?”
People seek counseling for many reasons, including feeling out of sorts, struggling in relationships, feelings of low self-worth, work/home balance, self-care, or needing support through a big life transition. It can also be helpful when you need an objective person who can help with your personal growth.
You don’t want to feel this way anymore.
I often talk to new clients, and they admit they have waited too long to reach out for help.
They thought things would get better, that one of the other strategies they have tried would work, or they just needed to get to this point that they couldn’t take it anymore to ask for help. They’re tired, lonely, or quick to anger.
They’re always on edge. They’re struggling in their relationships. They’re unhappy.
They strive for perfection but continue to feel “not good enough.”
So many things haven’t worked.
You’ve Googled and become overwhelmed with options, suggestions, and sometimes conflicting information.
You’ve read self-help books, and you’ve listened to Podcasts. They’ve been somewhat helpful by hearing other people talk about similar struggles, but none of these things have resulted in the changes you want to experience.
You have even resorted to mindlessly scrolling your news feed, binge-watching tv/movies, food, alcohol, or substances to provide temporary relief to the stress.
Ready to try something different?
Therapy will help you see your struggles in a new light. You will learn how to have compassion for yourself and see your strengths. You will learn to replace negative coping strategies with ones that build you up, help to relieve your distress, and help you feel more connected to yourself and others.
You want to find the right therapist to help you get there.
Someone who will truly listen, accept you as you are, and not judge you.
Someone who helps you feel safe. Someone who will provide support but will also challenge you to grow.
Someone who will help you face your fears.
Let’s talk about what therapy sessions are like…
Therapy is like an ongoing conversation. You will have the opportunity to share whatever struggles and difficulties you are facing that day or week. I take a holistic approach in working with clients to discuss physical, emotional, relational, educational, work-related, and spiritual issues – or all the above. And then we “dig in.”
When we get started, we’ll talk, and I’ll ask a lot of questions. Here’s what we’ll do:
We’ll identify the goals you want to achieve.
Goals are crucial for successful therapy, and they provide the roadmap for where you want to go. You get to identify your goals, and my job is to help you get there.
We’ll put together a plan to help you feel better.
Once you have identified your goals, I use my skills and knowledge of your particular difficulties to create a plan to reach your goals.
We’ll explore your experience, and you’ll gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
I’ll listen to the things you say and help you hear the things you don’t say. I will challenge you to see things from new perspectives.
You will learn new skills and strategies.
I utilize many strategies and techniques, including problem-solving, brainstorming, role-playing, teaching new skills, and providing support and motivation for change.
I do give “homework.” Assignments take the strategies we discuss in session and give you a chance to practice them in your daily life.
We’ll adjust your plan as needed.
Therapy is not a linear process, so sometimes adjustments are needed. I am always open to your feedback and suggestions. If you want to go in a different direction and focus on a new or different goal, that’s what we’ll do.
You’ll receive guidance and support all along the way.
Sometimes, we’ll laugh together. Sometimes people cry, but that’s okay! Tears don’t scare me. I’ll be with you each step of the way.
When we reach the end of your journey, you will have been empowered with new coping methods and feel ready to tackle new challenges that come into your path!
Ready to take the next step?
First, we have a 15-minute phone consultation to talk a little bit about what you want to work on, how I can help, and make sure you feel good about working with me as your therapist.
We’ll then schedule your first appointment. I will send you an email with a link to access the online client portal to complete your intake paperwork (it’s all paperless!).
Sessions are about 55 minutes, and I encourage clients to start with weekly sessions. This will help you build trust and feel comfortable sharing. Weekly sessions also help you jump quickly into beginning your work and see results.
