They say, “An old dog can’t learn new tricks.”
But that’s a lie! Old dogs can learn new tricks (I taught mine). So, people CAN change. YOU can change.
I truly believe that change is possible, and I have hope for every one of my clients. I have witnessed the power that a restored sense of hope has on seemingly impossible situations. I have seen a single mom struggling with addiction and homelessness regain custody of her children and completely transform her life because she finally had hope and believed that the life she wanted was possible.
I can bring you hope when you have none.
You have tried strategies that haven’t worked. Trying to avoid your feelings only makes you feel worse. It just doesn’t seem possible that things can get better.
Through a positive, trusting, and committed relationship, you will have someone in your corner who won’t give up on you. You will come to believe in yourself again.
Change can be scary, but…
Change can also lead you to places you never dreamed.
Your childhood taught you that people will hurt you and can’t be trusted, but by practicing and learning how to trust, you can break the bonds of isolation and loneliness and find caring and meaningful relationships.
By facing your social anxiety and ridding yourself of your self-doubt, you can open that business you have always wanted.
By learning to set healthy boundaries in your life, you can learn how to say “no” without guilt, you can be more present for your children and family, and feel at peace.
Needing or wanting change does not mean that you are “broken.”
Change is simply part of the growing process.
People continue to change and grow throughout their entire lives, whether they recognize it. Wanting to make changes to your life simply means you are ready for growth.
This is what’s really going to change your future…
Becoming aware of how life experiences have brought you to where you are today will help you understand how to get where you want to be for your future.
Having the drive and the motivation for change will provide the fuel.
The things that are getting in the way of having the present and the future that you want cannot hide any longer. We will find it together so that you can continue to grow into the person you want to become.
I love watching people transform through therapy.
I have seen individuals struggling with lingering effects from their childhood trauma complete training programs, get jobs they love, find love with safe and healthy partners, and finally believe in themselves.
I have seen individuals struggling with crippling anxiety successfully work in a job requiring continuous social interaction.
I have seen individuals so fearful of being hurt and keeping people at a distance learn to trust and accept love from healthy places. You can experience transformation, too!
About Me
Hi! I am Jennie Schroll. Born and raised Alaskan…
Rugged and tough, subsistence hunting and fishing are part of my lifestyle.
I know my way around power tools and am very much a do-it-yourselfer. I love to learn about other people, other cultures, other places.
My toughness has prepared me to hear and carry the often painful and heavy stories of people’s lives. My love of learning keeps my mind open to new ways of doing things. It also challenges me never to settle and always be looking for opportunities to grow myself.
I have always been drawn to helping people who have lost hope…
…people who are alone, hurting or forgotten.
I believe that God bestowed upon me the gift of loving and caring for others in a way to restore their hope. To know and feel that they are loved and not forgotten. They have meaning and a purpose in the world.
My favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 23:18 “There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.”
I knew since high school I would become a therapist.
It just made sense to me to become a therapist as I would provide the support and care for people who are feeling alone, are hurting, or forgotten.
Therapists are entrusted with their client’s deepest hurts and sometimes secrets. They see a side of their client that the client is sometimes afraid to show the world. It is my privilege and honor to help people heal.
Here’s a bit of my education and training…
I attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, obtaining my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Christian Pre-Counseling.
After completing my degree, I returned to Alaska and began working with children in a psychiatric setting. I transitioned to administering neuropsychological tests while attending graduate school. My master’s degree in Social Work is from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Throughout my career, I have worked in residential and outpatient settings with individuals age 6-88+, including veterans, survivors of domestic violence, people trapped in addiction, and children and youth in foster care. These individuals have had a wide range of concerns like depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting difficulties, and overcoming physical trauma or emotional abuse.
In my free time…
I enjoy being outdoors with my children and family doing all things Alaskan, like camping, biking, hiking, kayaking, hunting, fishing, snow machining, and cross-country skiing.
I also enjoy reading and working on my family tree.
